Our Story

About HGDC Community Crisis Center

Founded in 1981 by Elder Adeen Lewis George, HGDC Community Crisis Center has been a beacon of hope for the Goldsboro community for over four decades.

As a state and federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we provide crisis intervention services that help individuals meet their basic human needs while creating real opportunities for self-sufficiency.

We serve homeless individuals, those facing food insecurity, low-income families, individuals struggling with substance abuse and reentry, and elderly community members throughout Wayne County.

"Everyone deserves dignity, compassion, and a helping hand in their time of need."

— Elder Adeen Lewis George, Founder

Every Meal Matters

Three days a week, we open our doors to anyone in need. Your support keeps those doors open and those meals coming.

Support Our Mission
A month ago I was homeless, foodless and desperately in need of help, when a friend suggested I reach out to the Center on Slocumb Street. Now I have access to shower facilities, clothing, counseling, and two daily meals while I work toward self-sufficiency. The staff here are truly angels on Slocumb St.
